Pick-up on the island
The driver comes to the address in your booking. Typical pick-ups are White Sand Beach, Klong Prao, Kai Bae, Lonely Beach and Bang Bao, or any hotel or bungalow you name. The run from a resort to the ferry terminal takes 10 to 25 minutes depending on where you start.
Island roads are narrow and winding, so give the driver your exact bungalow or hotel name and a phone number that works on the island. Bags go in the boot at the door.
If you are on a different beach, name it in the booking. The order form accepts any address on the island, and the price shown before you send the request is the same wherever the pick-up is.
The ferry crossing
The car takes the ferry from Koh Chang to Laem Ngop on the mainland, in Trat province. The crossing is about 30 to 40 minutes, and ferries leave roughly every 45 minutes during daylight. The earliest sailings, around 07:00 or 08:00, give the smoothest start to a long day.
The ferry ticket is paid separately, about 90 THB per person. Keep a little cash for it. It is the only cost on this trip that sits outside the taxi price.
The long road west
This is a long drive, so it helps to know the order. From Laem Ngop the car follows Highway 3 along the coast through Trat and Chanthaburi, past fruit orchards, and on through Rayong and into Chonburi. It then goes around Bangkok on the Motorway 7 side and picks up Highway 35 through Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon and Phetchaburi to Cha-am and Hua Hin.
The time on the road is 8 h. Add the ferry wait. Weekday rush hours, 07:00 to 09:00 and 16:00 to 19:00, slow the stretch through Rayong and Chonburi, and the Bangkok ring is busy at the same hours.
Plan a stop
A trip of this length is best with a break. The driver can stop at a petrol station, a restaurant or a convenience store on Highway 3 or Highway 35 at no extra charge. Chanthaburi and Cha-am are the usual places. Tell the driver if you want a longer meal stop.
The order of the day usually runs like this: pick-up on the island at the time you set, the ferry, a first stop near Chanthaburi for a meal, the Bangkok bypass in the early afternoon, and a last break in Cha-am before the final stretch to Hua Hin. Tell the driver which stops you want when you meet, and the plan adjusts to the group.

At the end of the trip the driver drops you at your Hua Hin address: a beachfront resort, a hotel in town near the railway station, a villa at Khao Takiab or a condo in the northern residential areas.
